THE SUFY EPIC
DECADES IN THE MAKING

The Sufy Epic journey began in India in the 1960's and has evolved across two very different worlds.
Gurd was born in India and spent his early years immersed in rich storytelling traditions. 'Bhats’ were tales told by elders, sung by wandering sages and celebrated during festivals. They resonated with inner truths, provided moral lessons and depicted the timeless conflict between good and evil, through language and music. This left a deep imprint on his imagination.
Arriving in the UK at eight years old, Gurd experienced a new world of Western tales, but these felt different. The varied story structures left him yearning for the spiritual resonance he remembered from his childhood. He questioned why there were no epic stories blending Indian mythology with Western philosophies. Several years of ideation led to the beginning of Gurd's own storytelling journey and in the 1980's, the first Superwarrior Sufy concept was born.
After establishing Chahalco to promote discos, DJs and live acts, Gurd also collaborated with several A-list Bollywood / Bhangra singers and music producers. He arranged pioneering collaborations with mainstream British acts and comic artists, to produce innovative music concept albums. These were released in cassette and vinyl formats with inlay sleeve inserts, incorporating bright illustrations and narration to convey the unfolding story. Despite its widespread success, the Sufy Epic was paused after the fourth release (Dance of the Demons) in 1993. Gurd turned down film offers and halted upcoming releases, as he felt that the project required more creative depth and flair prior to its global release.
Over the following decades, Gurd worked tirelessly to reimagine the Sufy Epic universe, aligning it with the changing world and global shifts in storytelling. It was expanded with more immersive worlds, a cast of diverse protagonists, compelling characters with rich histories and the creation of the internal ‘Namanic’ language.
In recent years, Gurd has spent hundreds of hours with international creatives - writers, digital artists and music directors, to create the modern iteration of a lifetime of work. Alongside the younger generation of his family, he stands at Chahalco's helm, to proudly present the Sufy Epic, a bold new universe blending Indian mythology with high-stakes fantasy.
Following the initial launch, the Sufy Epic will expand through books, music, art and eventually film, creating an immersive experience for legacy fans and a new global audience alike.
